Chocolate Invitations For Kids

On an invitation what does R.S.V.P. stand for, Is it French?

I sent out 40 invites to a ladies (n their kids if no sitter) Death By Chocolate Party…..5 called 3 said they could come.
I think it is inconsiderate that the other 35 cannot even call….I see these people at church evry Sunday they can’t tell me anything? Whoa! How would they like it if I just ignored their invite n then showed up with the other 4 members of my family? HMMMMM

Ah. You weren’t asking.

Yes, that was rude of all those who haven’t responded.

When you see them at church, go up to each, and say “I haven’t heard back whether you’re coming…” and get an answer on the spot.

Or, to make your point, you could assume they didn’t get the invite “I guess you didn’t get my invitation, and I so WANTED you to come” then start to give the what, where and when of the party, apologizing that they didn’t get the invitation you were sure you sent. (Yes, it isn’t your fault, but this helps maintain the fiction that you don’t think they’re rude.)

Then get a yes or no.

(Careful, as telling other people they are being rude is itself rude. The idea is to make them feel bad, while being impeccably polite oneself.)

For the others, you’ll have to call and ask them.

I read a lot of Miss Manners, and this problem has become increasingly common.

The burden, unfortunately, is on you, the hostess, to track them all down and get answers.

Or, just make a guess as to how many are likely to show.

When the non-responders show, say (enthusiastically) “What a lovely surprise! I was expecting you, since you never responded to the invitation. I hope there’s enough, as I assumed you weren’t coming, and didn’t plan to have you.” Then pretend to be overcome with joy that they decided to make it after all (you don’t want to be rude, yourself).

Maybe some will get the message.
